  • Michelangelo’s Pietà: located in the first chapel on the right, it was sculpted between 1498 and 1499 in white Carrara marble. It is the only sculpture bearing Michelangelo’s signature;
  • Bernini’s Baldachin: an imposing bronze structure almost 30 metres high, marking the exact point of St. Peter’s tomb;
  • The Vatican Grottoes: the underground level extending beneath the nave. Here you can find the tombs of numerous popes and the remains of the original Roman necropolis;
  • The bronze statue of St. Peter: created by Arnolfo di Cambio towards the end of the 13th century;
  • St. Peter’s Square: designed by Bernini, with its great colonnade and the Ancient Obelisk.
